Chen Jia En, 17 years old, attended the Beauty Therapist Programme

I was able to acquire more knowledge, beauty-wise. I'm appreciative for the chance given to me to allow me to study. My school has allowed me to be able to visualise my future. During the course, I found passion for it. The course totally changed my attitude and I'm a better person now. I will definitely recommend this school to my friends.

The school has given me a good opportunity to learn more about beauty and having goals in life. I got to learn a lot ever since I came to this school. I love studying in Immanuel Beauty School. "I dropped out of school when I was 14 years old because I didn't like studying or waking up early for school. Coming to school became a real chore and my lack of interest got me into a lot of trouble with the teachers. School just became a very terrible place to be in. One year later, I was caught shoplifting and put into a guidance programme, with Tampines FSC, where I was assigned a cousellor who took over my case. My counsellor knew about the Beauty Therapist Programme at IBS and convinced me to take it up. Since I was already caught and had nowhere else to go and with nothing else could do, I decided to give it a go.

I came into the programme in Oct 2008 and have been doing well in the programme. Because I know that there was no where else for me to turn, I was motivated to try and make something of myself. The teachers at IBS are nothing like the teachers back in school. They are more friendly and they seem to understand me better and understand my needs. Even though there have also been ups and downs while in the programme, especially in the beginning, I have realised that the only way I will fail is if I give up on myself.

As my graduation is nearing, I have also started my internship with a training salon and it has given me a new sense of responsibility. Even though it may seem scary and overwhelming sometimes, I feel that I have been given an opportunity to make something of myself and I can see a brighter future for me. IBS and the teachers in the school have made me realise that I can become someone successful if I try and if I have people believing in me. Even if i don't have qualifications like an N-Level or O-level certificate, I can still become a qualified and, eventually, successful beautician because someone gave me a chance and believed in me."

Sharifah, 17 years old, attended the CIBTAC Diploma in Nail Technician

"I had dropped out of school at 13. I was shy and introverted. For four years, I had no aim in life and did not look for any jobs until my counsellor told me about this beautician course at Immanuel Beauty School. When I first met Hazel, the founder, she told me that she could not accept me until I lose 10kg. For the first time in my life, I found the motivation to pursue a goal, probably because I really wanted to go for the course badly. Through a strict diet, which only my counselor knew, I really lost 10kg in 3months.

With that, I was accepted into the program and now have graduated with two diplomas in Aesthetics and Nails. I want to deeply thank Hazel and Chris during this one year plus for continuously pushing me to take up new challenges that I never thought I could do. I now am definitely financially much stronger and am more confident in myself in the way I deal with customers and also in my future. These are things that I never thought I could achieve.what I have never thought I could achieve.

I now aim to be an expert in the beauty industry where customers definitely want to look for Sharifah when they come for their treatments."

Lessons conducted at Immanuel Beauty School are lively and interactive and an equal emphasis is placed on both the theory and the practical components.
